A British ploughman's lunch, reimagined for the northern table.

A ploughman's lunch is one of the great British ideas: good bread, sharp cheese, cured meat, pickles, and a spread to put on it — laid out so everybody builds their own. Nothing fussed over, nothing plated, everything on the table at once.

We've taken that and made it northern. House-cured and imported cold cuts, artisan cheeses from Ontario and further afield, our own pickles and chutneys, and the little extras that turn a simple lunch into something worth lingering over.

Everything arrives ready to assemble. Nothing is pre-made. You stack it, you sauce it, you take it where you want it — and no two sandwiches on the table look the same, which is exactly the point.

What's in the box

• Thick-cut bread — ciabatta and freshly baked bread, ready for stacking
• Artisan cheese — a rotation of sharp, creamy and semi-firm varieties, cut into generous wedges
• Cured meats — ham, chicken, prosciutto, genoa 
• Pickles and chutneys — pickled red onion, cornichons, mustard pickles and a seasonal fruit chutney
• Salted butter and house-made spreads — whipped butter, bacon jam and a savoury jam or two to layer in
• Fresh crudité and fruit — seasonal vegetables and fruit for crunch and colour
• Nuts and crackers — roasted and salted, plus flatbread for anyone skipping the bread
• Little extras — the odds and ends that make it feel generous rather than rationed

All four run at about $41 a person — the same rate whether you're feeding six or twelve. No penalty for a small table, no discount to chase.

Why it works

• It's genuinely hands-on. Everything is laid out to assemble. That's what makes it a lunch people linger over instead of a plate they finish and leave.
• It covers the whole table. Vegetarians can skip the meat entirely, the bread-avoiders have flatbread, and the picky eater just leaves off what they don't want. A pre-made sandwich can't do any of that.
• It's a proper spread, not a sandwich. Bread, cheese, three meats, two pickles, two spreads, crudité, fruit, nuts and crackers. There's more on the table here than in anything else we box.
